Parodia.dev is a private, invitation-only federated social community operated as a non-commercial service by its administrator ("the Operator"). The service comprises several interconnected platforms including Akkoma (microblogging), Lemmy (discussion and link aggregation), WriteFreely (blogging), Matrix/Element (messaging), Gitea (code hosting), and Miniflux (feed reading), alongside a pair of in-house bots (Pete and Pastel) that relay feeds into chat. These services are federated via the ActivityPub and Matrix protocols, connecting them to the broader decentralized internet.
By creating an account or accepting an invitation to join Parodia.dev, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account.
02 · MEMBERSHIP & IDENTITY
Membership is by invitation only. The Operator reserves the right to accept, deny, or revoke membership at any time for any reason, without obligation to provide explanation.
Pseudonyms are required. Do not use your real legal name as your username or display name on any service within the Parodia.dev network.
Do not provide personally identifying information in your profile, bio, or posts unless you have explicitly chosen to do so at your own risk.
You may not impersonate any other person, living or dead, or any real-world organization.
You may not create multiple accounts without express prior approval from the Operator.
03 · DATA COLLECTED AND STORED
Parodia.dev is designed with data minimization as a deliberate architectural principle.
ALL SERVICES
Username (pseudonym) and hashed password credentials
IP addresses and access logs retained transiently for security purposes
No real names, phone numbers, government identifiers, or payment information are collected or required
MATRIX / ELEMENT
User credentials only
Message content is stored for delivery purposes; the Operator does not access message content except as required for security incident response
No user-generated media or profile data beyond credentials is retained at the operator level
AKKOMA
Posts, replies, and profile information as entered by you
Posts marked public or unlisted may propagate to other servers in the fediverse beyond the Operator's control
Followers-only and direct posts are treated as non-public but the Operator cannot guarantee confidentiality of content shared with multiple parties
LEMMY
Posts, comments, and community memberships as entered by you
Community content is public by default and may be indexed, federated, or cached by third-party servers
The Operator cannot control downstream caching or federation of public content
WRITEFREELY
Blog posts and profile information as entered by you
Published posts may be public and may federate to other servers, where they can be cached or indexed beyond the Operator's control
The Operator does not claim ownership of your writing; you retain all rights you hold in material you publish
GITEA
Repositories, issues, and code you push, plus your account credentials
Repositories are private to your account unless you deliberately make them public
The Operator does not claim ownership of your code; you retain all rights you hold in material you upload
MINIFLUX
Feed subscriptions and read state associated with your account
This data is private to your account and is not federated or shared
PETE & PASTEL (IN-HOUSE BOTS)
These bots relay RSS headlines and deals into Matrix rooms; they process public feed content, not personal data about you beyond your membership of the rooms they post to
04 · DATA BACKUP & CROSS-BORDER TRANSFERS
Infrastructure backups are performed periodically to ensure service continuity.
Backup data, which may include user credentials and content, may be received and stored by the Operator in the United States for the purpose of disaster recovery only.
All backup data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher.
All backup data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 or equivalent encryption.
Backup data is never used for any purpose other than service restoration.
No backup data is shared with, sold to, or made accessible to any third party.
The Operator acknowledges that this cross-border transfer (EU to US) exists and has implemented encryption controls as a protective measure. By using the service, you consent to this transfer under these stated conditions.
05 · HOW YOUR DATA IS USED
Data collected through Parodia.dev services will be used exclusively for the following purposes:
Service delivery — authenticating users, displaying content, enabling federation
System backups — as described in Section 4
Internal analytics — aggregate usage statistics for capacity planning and service health; never correlated with individual identities or shared externally
Security and abuse prevention — reviewing logs in response to abuse reports, security incidents, or violations of these Terms
THE OPERATOR WILL NEVER
Sell, license, or transfer your data to any third party for commercial purposes
Use your data for advertising targeting, profiling, or behavioral analysis
Share your data with any government authority except in response to a valid legal order — and will notify affected users to the extent legally permissible
Use your content to train machine learning models without explicit informed consent
06 · PRIVACY LIMITATIONS
You are joining a federated service. Federation is fundamental to how these platforms operate and creates inherent limitations on privacy guarantees. By accepting membership, you acknowledge the following:
Public posts on Akkoma and Lemmy are, by design, federated to other servers. Once federated, the Operator cannot delete, retract, or modify copies held by other servers.
Other servers in the fediverse may cache, archive, or index your public content. The Operator has no control over third-party servers.
Search engines and public crawlers may index public content. The Operator cannot prevent this.
The Operator cannot guarantee the security practices of federated servers with whom your content is shared as a result of your own posts.
07 · SECURITY PRACTICES
Passwords are stored as salted cryptographic hashes; plaintext passwords are never logged or retained
All connections to Parodia.dev services are encrypted via TLS
Server infrastructure is hosted in European Union data centers with EU-standard physical and network security
Access to production infrastructure is limited to the Operator
Backup data is encrypted at rest and in transit as described in Section 4
No system is perfectly secure. In the event of a security breach that materially affects your data, the Operator will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users in a timely manner.
08 · ACCEPTABLE USE
The following content and behaviors are prohibited:
Illegal content of any kind under applicable law
Content that harasses, threatens, or targets individuals
Spam, unsolicited advertising, or coordinated inauthentic behavior
Content that infringes on third-party intellectual property rights
Attempts to circumvent, probe, or disrupt the security of the service or its infrastructure
The Operator reserves the right to remove content and/or revoke membership for violations without notice or appeal.
09 · YOUR RIGHTS REGARDING YOUR DATA
You may contact the Operator at any time to request:
A copy of data associated with your account
Correction of inaccurate account data
Deletion of your account and associated data from Parodia.dev servers
Deletion requests apply only to data held on Parodia.dev infrastructure. The Operator cannot delete federated copies of your public content held on third-party servers. For content you wish to retract from the broader fediverse, delete it prior to account closure — this generates federated deletion requests to known servers, though compliance by those servers cannot be guaranteed.
10 · CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
The Operator may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to members via the community's Matrix space or through the administrative contact published on the service. Continued use of the service after notification constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
